Retribution

Enough to clear Coiled Isle rares and Delves without reading a full guide. Builds are on the Builds page.

There's no gear sharing between your specsRetribution wants Strength, Holy wants Intellect — these are two separate sets. Running world content in Ret is fine, but your Mistcrests and Sparks should go into Holy if Holy is the spec you intend to raid and key on. Set your Loot Specialization to Holy (right-click portrait) while farming the world in Ret.

Single target

  1. Avenging Wrath
    goes first; raises crit and amplifies everything after
  2. Execution Sentence
    just before Wake of Ashes
  3. Hammer of Light
    with Wake of Ashes or Light's Deliverance proc
  4. Final Verdict at 5 Holy Power
  5. Wake of Ashes
  6. Divine Toll
  7. Blade of Justice
    at 2 Art of War stacks
  8. Hammer of Wrath at 2 charges
  9. Final Verdict on Divine Arbiter proc
  10. Hammer of Wrath → Blade of Justice → Judgment
  11. Templar Strikes / Crusader Strike filler

AoE

Same spine, two substitutions: Divine Storm at 5 Holy Power replaces Final Verdict as the default spender, and Final Verdict only jumps the queue when you have Divine Arbiter from Divine Storm.

Practical notes

  • Stats: item level, then Mastery → Haste → Crit → Versatility. Crit is slightly better on AoE with Templar because of Wrathful Descent.
  • Hero tree for the world: Templar. Short fights, burst AoE, better defensives.
  • For anything sustained: Herald of the Sun. They're effectively tied on single target, so don't agonize.
  • Trinkets: line up on-use stat trinkets with Wings.

Tier set gameplay

The Season 2 bonus raises Divine Purpose proc rate and amplifies your next spender. Pattern: right after consuming a Divine Purpose proc, weave a Divine Storm on single target or a Final Verdict on AoE.

Ret talent swaps worth knowingCrusading Strikes over Templar Strikes — Icy Veins calls it "significantly stronger." Radiant Glory instead of Execution Sentence for smoother cooldowns and less tank-dependency. Sanctify vs Jurisdiction is your AoE-versus-single-target dial.
